This morning saw the planet Venus being occulted by the Moon. Sounds serious, eh? Nah, it’s actually another word for eclipse. I had to work, so I didn’t get to bring the telescope out. But I did bring my DSLR and a 100-400mm G-series Sony lens and my tripod, and snagged a few shots.
You can clearly see Venus as the bright (and very small) crescent to the upper left limb of the Moon in the first two. The final shot, the one with the well timed jetliner, you would have to zoom in…Venus is a barely visible bright spot right on the edge of the Moon.
Hopefully sometime over the next few weeks I’ll be able to get a picture of Comet Catalina, which is on approach to Earth now after just swing around the sun.
