The Force Has Already Awakened

I have watched the trailer about 10 times already. As another writer commented, it is incredibly well done, and artful exercise in brilliant tease. Most trailers these days show far to much, ending up either showing you the entire plot, or the films best scenes before you even get to the theater. With “The Force Awakens”, Abrams and company give you goose bumps, tears and a rising excitement, a willingness to once again camp out in front of theater and know that you won’t go home feeling empty.  But they are still only giving you glimpses of the overall film and story–you will have to put your butt in a chair in a theater to let the Force fully in.

Another thing that has struck me is that with the films cast and crew, there is a honest sense of awe and wonder, a feeling that exudes from their words, tweets and posts that they actually care about their work here.  That they know they have entered an almost sacred universe is easy to see.  I believe Daisy Ridley’s tears when she watches the completed trailer for the first time.  Her and John Boyega’s looks of awe and amazement don’t need acting skills.  They are fully enveloped in what is being created around them, and honored to be a part of it.  Hell, even Harrison Ford looks and sounds like he has actually come home.

Ticket sites crashed last night.  They started coming back online in the wee hours, and today I’ll be purchasing seats.  If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the new trailer now.

And then watch it 8 or 9 more times.
